Description:
The PhD researcher will conduct PhD research as part of ZEFs long-term
interdisciplinary research project on sustainable land and water use
in that the Khorezm province, which is part of the Amu Darya basin,
Aral sea region (full project title Economic and Ecological
Restructuring of Land and Water Use in the Khorezm Region
(Uzbekistan): A Pilot Project in Development Research)

The PhD researcher will study the economic and socio-political
dynamics of emerging regional agricultural service organizations
(farmer associations, machine/tractor parks, rural banks and commodity
exchange) in the context of a political economy in transition. The
practical aim of the research is to provide concepts for institutional
re-organization.

Tasks:
- Conduct PhD research (shorter or longer fieldwork period in all
project years)
- Actively participate in project activities

Start and duration:
>From 1 February 2008, for three-four years, including project-related
tasks other than the PhD research.

Duty station:
- During fieldwork: Khorezm province, Uzbekistan
- Otherwise: Bonn, Germany

Requirements:
- Relevant Masters degree in (development) economics, new
institutional economics, sociology or political science (preferably
including topics like rural service providing organisations, policy
analysis, rural development, etc.)
- Previous experience in Uzbekistan and/or the Central Asian region preferred
- Excellent writing skills in English
- Uzbek and/or Russian language skills are a recommendation
- Good team member

In case of equal suitability female candidates will be preferred.
