FELLOWSHIP- Sustainable Agriculture in Central Asia and the Caucasus

The CGIAR Centers: Bioversity International, CIMMYT, ICRISAT, IWMI,
CARDA and center-partner AVRDC, have established a fellowship for a
postgraduate (Ph.D.) student focusing on agricultural development in
Central Asia and the Caucasus. The fellowship has been made available
thanks to the generous contribution of several CGIAR centers and the
CGIAR King Baudouin "Science Award for Outstanding Partnership" given
to the CGIAR Program for Sustainable Agriculture in Central Asia and
the Caucasus. (For more information about CGIAR activities please go

The fellowship will provide a stipend and cover tuition fees of a
postgraduate student to pursue a doctoral level study in a leading
university located in any country. Maximum amount of the fellowship is
USD 40 000 for the whole PhD program. The research program should be
linked to development of sustainable agriculture in Central Asia and
Caucasus. The research program may be focused on any of these directions:

-germplasm improvement;
-seed supply systems;
-cropping systems and agricultural diversification;
-integrated system of livestock and fodder production;
-integrated on-farm soil, water and salinity management;
-conservation of plant genetic resources;
-socioeconomic and policy research.

The application deadline for the fellowship application is: May 31, 2009.

The applicants should send all documents in the order stated in the
application form via e-mail (PDF file, size not exceeding 5Mb) to the
ICARDA regional office in Tashkent (E-mail: icarda-tashkent@cgiar.org).
The selection committee will consider applications during the Annual
steering committee meeting in Tbilisi Georgia 2009. The selection of
the adequate university will be discussed with the selection
