Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy is pleased to announce the First PhD
Workshop, which will take place on December 19-20, 2008, in Baku,
Azerbaijan. The aim of the PhD workshop is to:

* enhance the knowledge about Azerbaijan in the scholarly world and
establish a permanent venue for academic debate at the Azerbaijan
Diplomatic Academy (ADA);
* stimulate interaction among Azerbaijani and international scholars;
* build cooperation and share experiences and insights on research
and teaching methods as part of the educational reforms being
conducted in Azerbaijan.

The workshop will be held at the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADA)
and bring together PhDs and PhD candidates in the social science
discipline, with special emphasis on international relations,
economics and international law. The workshop agenda includes a
plenary session, thematic panels with presentations by PhD students,
and comments and moderation by established scholars from around the globe.

Who May Apply

Applicants should be Azerbaijani or other citizens who recently earned
a PhD degree or are advanced PhD candidates in the field of political
science, economics or international law at institutions outside of
Azerbaijan. All candidates should be fluent in English.

Deadline for Submission of Abstract
Interested applicants should submit an abstract of their research
paper in a Word file attachment no later than the 15th of November,
2008. The abstract must be in English and should not exceed 500 words.
It should be emailed to PhDworkshop@ada.edu.az along with a short CV
(up to one page) that includes the applicant's institutional affiliation.

Paper Requirements
Selected applicants will be required to submit a full paper prior to
the workshop. Non-Azerbaijani citizens' papers must focus on a
research topic related to Azerbaijan.

Travel and Accommodation

Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADA) will offer limited grants to cover
accepted applicants' travel expenses to and from Azerbaijan and
accommodation for non-Azerbaijani citizens.

Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADA) is a school of international
affairs dedicated to preparing innovative global leaders and to
promoting useful collaborative research on diplomacy and international
affairs. The Academy sponsors the Advanced Foreign Service Program
(AFSP) and offers a two-year Master's Degree in Diplomacy and
International Affairs (MADIA), which will be launched in September
