of Nations and the Origins of Armenian Genocide Denial, April 28, 2008
Speaker: Dr. Keith David Watenpaugh
Keith David Watenpaugh is Associate Professor of Modern Islam, Human
Rights and Peace in the Religious Studies program of the University of
California, Davis. He is the author of Being Modern in the Middle
East: Revolution, Nationalism, Colonialism and the Arab Middle Class
and several articles published in the International Journal of Middle
East Studies, Social History, and Middle East Report. Dr. Watenpaugh
has conducted research in Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, and
Iraq. His current research is focused on the multiple intersections
of the modern international human rights regime, Islam and colonialism
in the 20th century Arab Middle East. Dr. Watenpaugh earned his Ph.D.
from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is the recipient of
several grants including the CIEE Fulbright, Fulbright-Hays, Social
Science Research Council and Will Rogers fellowships and was the
Andrew W. Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellow in Middle East Studies at
Williams College.
