CENTRAL ASIA AND CAUCASUS MEETINGS for the Month of October

Posted by: Laura Adams <lladams2@earthlink.net>

The following upcoming meetings of the Working Group and Seminar
series will be on Tuesdays from 4:15-6:00 pm, in CGIS South Room
S-354 at 1730 Cambridge St., 3rd Floor, Davis Center for Russian and
Eurasian Studies. There will be refreshments.

October 7th: Kyle Marquardt, M.A. student in CERES at Harvard,
"Political Framing of Language and Language Policy in Post-Soviet
Azerbaijan." This paper will be distributed on October 3.

October 14th: Frederick Sjoberg, visiting fellow at the Davis Center,
"Explaining Electoral Competitiveness in Kyrgyzstan: moving beyond
the "clan" hypothesis."

October 21: Gulnora Aminova, Ph.D. candidate in NELC, "The Tale of a
Stone Doll: the "sleeping prince" motif revisited in the Islamic
context of female power and authority."

October 29: Central Asia and the Caucasus Seminar featuring Saltanat
Liebert, Assistant Professor of Government & Public Affairs, Virginia
Commonwealth University, "Illegal Labor Migration from Central
Asia to the United States."

Note that the meetings on October 7, 14, and 21 are in the Working
Group series, which is an informal discussion of projects in progress
by members of the group who attend mainly on a regular basis. New
members of the group are welcome. Refreshments are served. The
papers are distributed in advance to allow a closer discussion of the
material and presentation. If you are interested in participating,
send a note about that to John Schoeberlein <schoeber@fas.harvard.edu>.

The October 29 event is in the public seminar series with a wider
group of attendees -- all are welcome!
