JOB- Country Director, Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR), Kyrgyzstan

Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) is currently seeking to
recruit a highly motivated Kyrgyzstan national for the post of Country
Director in our Bishkek office.

IWPR strengthens local journalism in areas of conflict. By training
reporters, facilitating dialogue and providing reliable information,
it supports peace, democracy and development in societies undergoing
trough crisis and change.

Location: Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

Closing date: October 12, 2007

Description: The Country Director will run IWPR's editorial and
training projects in Kyrgyzstan and manage the office in Bishkek.

Main duties and responsibilities:
- Manage IWPR's media projects in Kyrgyzstan ensuring program goals are met
- Commission and edit articles from local journalists in Kyrgyzstan
under the direction of the editorial team of IWPR in London.
- Organize regular training meetings with journalists in Kyrgyzstan
with the participation of representatives of non-governmental
organisations and local media activists, as part of IWPR's projects in
Kyrgyzstan,.
- Manage IWPR's Bishkek office and report on monthly office expenses
and narrative reports to Programme Manager in Bishkek
- Represent IWPR in Kyrgyzstan to donors, editors, NGOs, government
and international organizations and to lead IWPR's fundraising
activities in Kyrgyzstan. Work with other IWPR staff in the region to
coordinate cross-border editorial and educational projects.
- Promote IWPR's output from throughout Kyrgyzstan to local and
regional media.

Skills Required:
- At least three years experience in media and civil society sectors.
- Relevant university degree
- Strong organizational and leadership skills; experience in grant management
- Fluent Russian and English; good knowledge of Kyrgyz is an asset.
- Strong writing and computer skills.
- Thorough knowledge of the media and NGO sector in Kyrgyzstan and the region.
