EVENT- Int'l Human Rights Documentary Film Festival One World, Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Osh, Jalalabat, Sept. 27-29, 2007

International Human Rights Documentary Films Festival "Bir diujnio"
(One World) will take place in Bishkek, Osh and Jalalabat. Some 10
films by Central Asian and award-winning international filmmakers as
"Aral, Fishing in an Invisible Sea" (Saodat Ismilova, Carlos Casas,
Spain), "On a Tightrope" (Peter Lom, Canada), "Justice a Agadez"
(Christian Lelong, France) will be screened in original languages
(Urdu, Ujgur, Tuareg, Karakalpak, Russian etc.) with mostly parallel
English and Kyrgyz subtitles. The issues center on women, Islam and
children. Most of the screenings will be followed by discussions in
English, French, Russian and Kyrgyz as needed. Students, religious,
civic and minority leaders as well as wider public is invited.

As part of the festival, Christian Lelong will conduct workshops on
the role of documentary and video in a human rights activism (Osh, Bishkek).

The organizer of the One World Kyrgyzstan is a leading human rights
organization "Citizens against Corruption" with headquarters in
Bishkek. It builds on the film screenings in Bishkek, Naryn and Osh in
spring 2007.

The festival is a part of the international network of the One
World/Jeden Svet International Festival of Human Rights Documentary
Films, Prague.

The project was made possible by support of the Open Society
Institute's Culture and Art Program, Aga Khan's Music Initiative in
Central Asia, French Embassy in Bishkek and Central Asian Diaspora
organization kultur-multur.org in Prague.

The media partners are Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Prague and the
National Radio-TV Corporation of Kyrgyzstan.

The festival will be held under the auspice of the Commission on Human
Rights under the President of Kyrgyzstan.
