Workshop on Research Skills Development and Place-Based Writing within
the project "Introduction of place-based education to Central Asian
university instructors, teachers, and students" will be held by Public
Fund "Humanities Education - Central Asian Partnership" with the
financial support of the Christensen Fund.

(GDF) Anthony Sattin, Writer, Critic and Broadcaster
Language: English - Russian. Translation will be provided.
Synopsis:
The given workshop is the beginning of the long-term project on
development of ethno-ecological studies, which is especially relevant
from the point of view of preservation natural and cultural heritage
of the different people of Central Asia. The workshop is called upon
to assist teachers and students interested to work at the joint of
ecology and culture investigating interrelations of a human with the
environment. T he workshop is directed to educating university
instructors/school teachers and students with techniques and materials
of place-based writing emphasizing developing abilities of visual and
sensor perception of landscape and environment in writings and
research; to teach anthropological research skills on collecting
traditional knowledge of local people related to nature management;
how to work with row data in order to interpret it in scholarly
product. During the workshop the field trips will be organized, during
which participants will be observing cultural connection to the land
and practicing themselves in place-based writings. During workshop
participants will obtain practical skills in using digital cameras and
audio tape recorders. There will be awards for the best works of
participants; piloting small projects for conducting field research
with application of received skills aimed at collecting and describing
materials on traditional knowledge in rural places.
Teachers, researchers, graduate and post-graduate students from
Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan are welcomed to apply for the workshop.
Deadline: April 25, 2007
Terms of competition: Only selected applicants will be notified and
invited to interview. The expenses connected with participation in the
workshop will be covered by organizers. English language skills are
preferable.
