An Exhibition: Colours of the Silk Road: Suzani Embroderies from Uzbekistan
The Burrell Collection, Glasgow
Start Date : Friday, 20 June 2008
End Date: Sunday, 4 January 2009
A rare chance to see the Burrell's prized collection of suzanis
richly embroidered wall hangings from Uzbekistan. This exhibition
looks at how these exquisite works were created, and considers the
lives of the women who made them and the multi-cultural society that
they were a product of.
The exhibition also includes carpets from western China and Iran, and
textiles from Central Asia and Turkey. These help illustrate the
exchange of artistic influences between Uzbekistan and other areas
along the Silk Road trade route.
