JOBS- Two Central Eurasia-Related Positions, National Endowment for Democracy

I) Program Officer for Europe and Eurasia

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a congressionally funded,
private, nonprofit grant making organization that works to support
freedom around the world, seeks a Program Officer with its Europe and
Eurasia team, specializing in Central and Eastern Europe. The
position is based in Washington, D.C.

The Program Officer will work with the regional director and program
staff to develop and manage the NED's grants program in the region,
develop the Endowment's strategy for Central and Eastern Europe with a
particular emphasis on cross-border funding opportunities, set
priorities, and monitor and evaluate discretionary and core institute
projects in the region.

Specific duties of the Program Officer will include:

* Assessing proposals and drafting and editing board summaries of
successful proposals to present at quarterly Board meetings;
* Traveling to the region on a regular basis to identify and work
with potential new grantees;
* Monitoring and providing compliance assistance to existing grantees;
* Attending relevant internal and external meetings;
* Tracking political developments in the region;
* Maintaining contacts with organizations and individuals in
Washington working on the region.

Applicants should have the following qualifications:

* A Master's level education or equivalent knowledge in International
Affairs, Politics or a related discipline;
* At least 4 years of experience in democracy related work;
* In-depth knowledge of political issues and trends in Central Europe
and Eurasia;
* Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and
Russian, and preferably another East European language;
* Proficiency in the use of MS Office;
* High degree of organization and initiative;
* Experience in financial monitoring and reporting;
* Knowledge of program evaluation techniques;
* Excellent staff, office management and interpersonal skills.

II) Program Assistant for Europe and Eurasia

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a congressionally funded,
private, nonprofit grant making organization that works to support
freedom around the world, seeks Program Assistant with its Europe and
Eurasia team. The position is based in Washington, D.C.

The Program Assistant will provide administrative support to Europe
and Eurasia Programs staff.

Specific duties of the Program Assistant will include:

* Assisting the Programs staff with general administrative duties;
* Researching information about potential grantees and current
political developments on the continent;
* Maintaining contacts with grantees;
* Organizing meetings for visiting grantees;
* Providing support for considering and awarding grants to
nongovernmental organizations working on democracy-building programs
in Europe and Eurasia.

Applicants should have the following qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in relevant field;
* Knowledge of the political and social issues in the region required;
* Strong written and oral communication skills in English and Russian
or another East European language;
* Administrative support experience preferred;
* Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task;
* MS Office Skills are required.
